"My failures have been errors in judgement, not of intent."
Ulysses S. Grant was a brigadier general of the Union and the 18th President of the United States. Grant was an excellent general because he never gave up. He was a great leader, and trained the Union to become excellent soldiers. He led the Union to victory, which therefore ended slavery. At the time, the Union didn't have great generals like the South, such as Robert E. Lee.However, Grant was the Union's answer. After he came, the Union was starting to gain the upper the upper hand. Life changed for lots of African Americans because slavery was now abolished from the United States.
This topic is historically significant because if the Union(which was led by Grant) hadn't won the war, there would still be slavery, or at least for a longer time, in the United States.
